Coloring Book Carriers for Boys or Girls

\
This is a good gift for children who like to color. It is a carrier that holds coloring books, crayons, and has a pocket that is big enough to fit many other items too like pens, a book, color pencils and so much more.

Here is what you will need:
1/2 yard of a printed fabric
1/2 yard of a solid fabric
thread
sewing machine
velcro
Coloring book
crayons

First you need to cut two pieces of fabric. One piece from the solid fabric and one piece from the print.

These pieces should be long enough that you could place two coloring books on it with at least and inch in between. Also it should be about an inch wider than the length of the coloring book....

Next, you cut out the pieces for the crayon holder and the coloring book holder. The crayon holder should be about as wide as a crayon and as long as the big piece of fabric is wide. The coloring book holder should be just a little bit bigger than the coloring book......
You should cut out the pieces in both the print and the solid.

Now, sew each of the pieces together. When sewing, sew with right sides together and leave room to turn them right side out at the end.

After you get both of the pieces sewn together, place them on the solid piece of fabric like this.....
I added an additional pocket on the left hand side over the coloring book holder.

Now, pin everything in place....
The next step is to sew these pieces onto the solid piece of fabric....
After getting everything sewn into place, the next step is to sew vertical lines onto the crayon holder part like this....

Next, make your straps :)

After the straps are made, pin them where you want them.
Now, with the put the right sides of each piece together and sew them...

Now, turn your work right side out and stitch it closed. Then place your crayons and coloring book into the compartments.
Finally, add some velcro...
If you want to, you can add other decorations like glitter to spice it up a bit .....

Here are some other styles too....

Enjoy!

Homemade Rag Wreath

So, this is an awesome thing to do with any scrap fabric you have. If you don't have any scrap fabric, then it you can always buy some fabric for pretty cheap.

What you need:
Fabric strips - you will need a lot of fabric strips. I really do not know how many to tell you, but  I think I used almost a yards work of fabric on this wreath....maybe less.
A wire coat hanger.
Ribbon
hot glue (optional)
feathers, glitter, anything you want to add really.

Start with just a wire coat hanger and shape it into a circle. Then start tying your strips of fabric around the coat hanger. As I was tying, I would occasionally glue in a few feathers to add some extra decoration. Continue tying strips until you cannot fit anymore on the hanger. Cover the hook of the hanger in ribbon and then you are done.

For this wreath, I added an initial because it is a gift for someone and that is what they wanted. The initial is optional, but if you are going to add it, you should place it in before you tie all of the strips. I put this letter on using  wire, and I covered the initial in fabric and feathers so it would match the wreath.

There is lots of room for creativity so have fun and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Colorful Bobby Pins

This is a super easy way to up-cycle your hair accessories. All you need is bobby pins and nail polish.

I bought brown bobby pins, but I think any color will work, and blonde ones may work the best. Just paint the polish onto the bobby pins. You may have to do multiple coats for the thinner nail polishes.

The possibilities are pretty much endless. I hope you enjoy. :)

Cute Personalized Badge Holder

So, my mom just got a new nursing job and she starts the day after her birthday. I wanted to get her something that she would need when she started to work. I have seen several people with these really cute personalized badge holders. So, I decided to make my mom one of those for her birthday. So here is what you will need.

1 plain badge holder (found mine at a shop that sells scrubs for $2.95)
2x2 piece of fabric
Elmer's Glue
Hot Glue
Large Button

Start by gluing the fabric onto the button.
After you get the fabric onto the button, hot glue the button onto the badge holder. Then you are done.
I chose ladybugs because my mom absolutely loves them, but you could easily embroider a letter onto the fabric before you glued it to the button for an even more personalized look.
