DIY Coasters

This is a cool and inexpensive gift idea for anyone.
Here is what you will need:

4 tiles (These can be found in the flooring section of most home improvement stores. I got mine for 37 cents each at Lowe's.)
Decorative Items: Pictures, fabric, scrapbook paper, etc.
Mod Podge
Gloss Glaze
Paint Brushes.

The first thing that you need to do is to decide on a design. In this blog you will see how to make photo coasters and fabric covered coasters.

Photo Coasters:

Pick out 4 pictures that you want to use and any decorative items that you might like. Then get started. First cover the tiles in glue or mod podge. After the tiles are covered, start decorating them how you want. After they look like how to want them too, spread mod podge over your design with a paint brush and let it dry.

Fabric Covered Coasters:

Another cool idea is fabric covered coasters. For these, you do not even need 1/4 yard of fabric so you can get just about any type of fabric you want and it is still inexpensive, or you could use scraps of fabric that you already have. The ones that I made were made out of scraps that I had left over from a previous project.
To make these, you follow the same steps as you would for the picture coasters, but you use fabric instead. Cover the tile in mod podge and then place the fabric over the tile. Use enough fabric so that you can fold the fabric over the back as shown below.

Glue the fabric down on the back and allow it to dry. Then flip the coaster over and mod podge over the top. After that dries, brush a layer of the glaze over the top as well.

I hope you enjoy making these coasters! Check back soon for homemade ornaments and much more!
